Welcome to the Badass History Blog!

Welcome to the Badass History Blog.

This blog is the product of many, MANY years of teaching history to sometimes bored undergraduates.  Frankly, at times I even bored myself.  Academic history can be, well, dry at the best of times.

In order to alleviate that boredom, I found myself seeking out the strange, unique, weird – in short, the “badass” – bits of history.  I rejoiced in finding out the quirky things about long dead rulers.  I reveled in finding out the strange habits of politicians.  I found the machinations of women, men and even children fascinating.  And so did my students.  I think readers of the Badass History Blog will too.

What you will find on this blog is stuff you might already know – and some of it might surprise you.

We will talk and write about all periods of History, from the Ancient to the Modern Day. And we’ll look at all regions and disciplines of history.  Northing will escape our “badass” writers.

Some of the topics we will be writing about include:

  • Murderers, Criminals and Other Badasses in History
  • Badass History on Film
  • Historical Fiction Badasses
  • Television and Badass History
  • Badass History of Video Games

We’re even hoping to get “Badass History: The Podcast” up and running soon.

But researching, writing and savouring such badassery takes time and we hope you will be patient.  A system whereby you can support the work of Badass History Blog is also in the works.  We will let you know when and where you can pledge your support (and what stuff you get for your generosity)!

So while we’re still in the development stages for now, we hope you stay tuned for our first post: “What the heck qualifies as ‘Badass History’ anyway?” Starting in early January 2019, your history fix will never be the same.

In the meantime, if you have any suggestions of what you might want to see on this site, contact us at badasshistoryblog@gmail.com. We would love to hear from you.

Who said History has to be boring?
